A lot of people figure that the only thing they need to know about a headache is that when they get one if they take a pain reliever it has a decent chance of going away. And while ultimately that may be the goal, sometimes detecting the cause of the headache can lead to quicker relief and even make it so that with the proper treatment, your headache won't return. The question is, how do you detect what the actual cause of your headache is? Sometimes this isn't easy to do. But there are some symptoms to be on the look out for that can help you in detecting the cause of your headache.

One of the most common causes of headaches that can be avoided is poor vision. Many people, as they get older, experience a loss of vision. The problem is, this loss is slight at first. Maybe things are just a little blurry, or maybe just not as sharp as they used to be. They may be only straining their eyes slightly. This slight strain, however, may be just enough to bring on a headache. For people who already wear glasses, their prescriptions do change over time and it's possible that they need to have new glasses. So, if you're experiencing headaches often, one of the first things you may want to do is get your eyes checked. Your headache may be easily eliminated by getting yourself a new pair of glasses.

Another common cause of headaches is stress. People who have very hard and stressful jobs are more prone to headaches. So if you're experiencing headaches often, take a step back and look at your life. Take a good look at your job, your home life, your social life and everything that you can. Make a note of the things in your life that you find are stressful. For example, if you find you have a stressful job, see what you can do in order to relieve or at least reduce some of the stress. If you're working a lot of overtime, talk to your boss about maybe cutting back on some hours. If a supervisor is being unjustly hard on you, talk to his supervisor. Maybe you can get a change of supervisors. If that doesn't work, talk to your boss. See if you can work out your problems. The bottom line is to try to reduce the stress in your life. Your headaches may actually be a symptom of high blood pressure. So this is nothing to fool around with.

Another cause of headaches, that most people aren't even aware of, are toxins in the body. This is usually noticeable in a person's bathroom habits. If you find you are suffering from chronic constipation, or aren't going to the bathroom regularly, this may be because of toxins in the body, as well as poor diet. If this is the case, you will probably notice that after going to the bathroom your headache, if you have one, starts to subside. This is a sure sign that your headache is probably caused by toxins in the body.

There are other causes of headaches of course, some of which can be very serious such as brain tumors. But in most cases your headache is probably caused by something simple. By recognizing what the cause is, you have a good chance of eliminating your headaches for good.
