A migraine headache is a symptom. The pain is a sign that something is seriously wrong. You have a choice: you can choose prevention - find the cause and make changes in your life. Or you can look for the fastest way to get rid of the pain (which will come back again and again.)

What Does Your Body Need?

Every cell in your body needs three simple things: Provide it with the right raw materials. Let it do its work -- producing energy, synthesizing essential building blocks, repairing tissues, organs, etc. Help it to get rid of any wastes.

When you interfere with any of these steps, something that needs to get done doesn’t get done. Things go wrong. You find out when your body gives you a signal -- like a migraine.

Why Don’t You Give Your Body What It Needs?

There are lots of reasons or excuses: You’re working hard, you’re under a lot of stress. Your time isn’t your own. You don’t have time to exercise. You don’t get enough sleep. You aren’t able to eat at the same time every day. You have to grab something to eat wherever you can. You’re so rushed you can’t even sit down, you have to eat on the run. You don’t have time to be picky; you eat whatever is at hand. You don’t think about nutrients; you grab something to fill your stomach, raise your blood sugar, or give you a caffeine jolt.

The Body Has Its Limits.

Sometimes it’s amazing that your body continues to function as well as it does, considering how you neglect it. But that’s a function of the body; it compensates. It keeps looking for ways to keep you going, in spite of what you throw at it (or in it). However, one day the body reaches a point where it can’t compensate any more. A serious illness or condition develops, one that you may not be able to bounce back from.

Migraine -- A Sign of Serious Neglect

Most people treat a migraine as if it is an inconvenience (albeit an excruciating inconvenience) that needs to be dispensed with as soon as possible. All they want to do is stop the headache, whatever it takes. They pop a pill: when they get the migraine, or maybe every day so they don’t get a migraine. They think the important thing is to get back to what they were doing before that terrible pain so rudely interrupted them.

But popping a pill is not prevention; it is avoidance. A migraine is a symptom of something serious; your body is telling you to take action; not to ignore it.

So What Should You Do?

No one who gets a migraine would minimize the importance of being free of pain. But if your only objective is to stop the pain, you are ignoring what is causing it. You may get rid of it today, but it will come back tomorrow.

There are things that your body needs, and things that it needs to avoid. Each of the next four articles discusses a major factor in migraine headache prevention.

As you read these articles, remember to keep things simple. Don’t try to change all your habits at one time. It’s too complicated -- and too discouraging when you realize it can’t be done.

Choose one goal at a time -- something that is important to you. When your motivation is internal,
your focus and your energy are greater than when you’re doing something because someone else said it was important.

And remember that your body ‘wants’ to be healthy. It will work with you; you may be surprised just how much.

I'm interested in migraine symptoms, migraine treatment, migraine help, migraine prevention, migraine relief, because I had migraines for many years. I developed a system that helped my body to stop making migraines and I wrote a book about it. I found that there were five areas of imbalance that contributed to my migraines.
